Microsoft has cheated you out of Java support.

Even though this site only uses the Java run-time environment to a very limited extent, for esthetics, you should be aware of one fact.

Microsoft has lost a lawsuit allowing them to provide you with their propriety version of their Java VM. Java was originally developed by Sun Microsystems.
Rather than allowing you to get the latest and best Java run-time environment from Sun Microsystems, Microsoft has decided to simply deprive you of Java, on all their new operating systems.

No matter how you slice it, the result is the same. Websites that have used Java Applets (not to be confused with JavaScripts) will no longer work correctly, on newer systems, unless you take corrective action. Fortunately, the solution is simple and free and you will never again be frustrated by having Java content fail on your machine that works for everyone else. Be aware however that download time could be significant (close to 30 minutes) using a 56K modem.
